Social Problem-Solving Ability of Patients with Depressive Disorder


Abstract
tis Study examined the social problem-solving by of patients of Depressive Disorder. More ifically, the study examined differences amoatients with Depressive Disorder, patients wither neurotic disorder, and normal subjects on ral social
problem-solving
variables. Subjects given the Social Problem Solving Inventory, PI, and BDI. Results indicated that patients depressive disorder, as compared to normal ects, were significantly ineffective social prosolvers. But differences between patients with
depressive disorder and patients with other neurotic disorder were not statistically significant. Regression analyses indicated that low total score of Social Problem Solving Inventory significantly predicted high rate of depression and general
psychopathology.
These findings suggest that social problem solving ability is strongly associated with depression and interpersonal relation-related psychopathology. The results are dicussed in terms of the social problem solving model of depression.
